Staying Active Outdoors
This summer, children at Brave Whales summer camps had an unforgettable time under the guidance of experienced trainers Svetlana Karpeeva and Roman Rybin, as well as talented art teacher Olga Radjapova. The camp program was rich and diverse, providing opportunities for physical development and overall well-being.
Daily hikes lasted 2-2.5 hours, covering 8-10 km. The children hiked through scenic areas, building endurance and mental resilience. Together, they faced challenges, which helped them strengthen teamwork and develop cooperation skills.
Introduction to Open Water
In addition to hiking, the children were introduced to open water safety, allowing them to feel confident while swimming in natural bodies of water. They enjoyed splashing and playing, while also learning to be responsible around water.
Socialization and Teamwork
The camp provided an excellent environment for socialization. The children not only made new friends but also learned to work as a team, support one another, and further develop their social skills. Interacting with peers created unforgettable summer memories.
Art Workshops by Olga Radjapova
In addition to physical activities, the camp also placed a strong emphasis on developing the children’s creativity. Art teacher Olga Radjapova led engaging workshops where the children explored their artistic talents. These workshops provided an outlet for self-expression, allowing them to expand their imagination and creativity.
Creative Balance and Self-Expression
Creative activities became an important part of the camp’s program, providing a harmonious balance between physical exertion and moments for reflection. The children created their own art, which not only allowed them to showcase their talents but also helped boost their confidence.
Wilderness Survival Basics
A crucial part of the program was survival skills training, led by Svetlana Karpeeva and Roman Rybin. These lessons aimed to teach the children essential skills to stay safe in the wilderness. They received both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice in key areas like building shelters and navigating the terrain.
Shelter Building and Choosing Safe Locations
The trainers demonstrated how to construct shelters using branches, leaves, and stones to protect against rain, wind, and cold. The children were taught how to select a safe location for their shelter, avoiding hazards and considering access to water and other essential resources.
Navigation and Orienteering
The children also learned the basics of wilderness navigation. Trainers explained how to use natural landmarks, compasses, and maps to determine direction, and what to do if they got lost.
First Aid and Fire Building
Another key aspect of the lessons was learning first aid. Trainers taught the children how to respond to injuries, insect bites, or hypothermia, and how to provide basic first aid until help arrives. Additionally, the children learned to safely build a fire using minimal tools, ensuring warmth and the ability to cook food.
Responsibility for Nature and Self
These lessons not only developed practical skills but also instilled a sense of responsibility for nature and themselves. The experience gained in these lessons was invaluable and unforgettable for each participant.
